Keeping in mind how users stay on the older version for long, Microsoft is making sure the same thing doesn’t happen with Windows 10.  One of the recent feature updates in Windows 10 gave end-users the option to download updates manually, so they are not more forced. However, if your version of Windows 10 is getting out of date, Windows will force update you to the latest version. Microsoft has now stated that anybody running Windows 10 v1809 would be forced to upgrade to v1909.

Microsoft to start pushing v1909 on Windows 10 running v1809

Beginning today, we will slowly start the phased process to automatically initiate a feature update for devices running the October 2018 Update (Windows 10, version 1809) Home and Pro editions, keeping those devices supported and receiving the monthly updates that are critical to device security and ecosystem health. We are starting this rollout process several months in advance of the end of service date to provide adequate time for a smooth update process.

Windows 10 v1809 was released in October 2018 which is almost a year old. A lot of enhancements both in terms of features and security were released in the next updates. Microsoft feels that keeping those devices supported and receiving the monthly updates that are critical to computer security and ecosystem health.

Here is another reason why the upgrade is compulsory. Windows 10 v1809 will soon reach its end of service date which is on May 12, 2020. Here are full details on the Lifecycle of Windows 10 v1809.

  • End of service for Enterprise and Education editions: May 11, 2021

Starting today, Microsoft will launch the rollout in a phased process. It will automatically initiate a feature update for devices running the October 2018 Update. Even though the end of service is due six months, Microsoft feels its important that users get the latest update early. It will ensure the update can be applied to all the computers before the deadline.
