No product has an indefinite shelf life and so come to an end someday. Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 released publicly on 24th August 2010 marked the end of its mainstream support on 13th January 2015. After that, the product entered the extended support phase, which was scheduled to end in January 2020. Microsoft has extended this time limit by a few additional months from January 14th, 2020 to October 13th, 2020.

The company also clarified that following the end date, it wouldn’t provide any technical support for bug fixes, security fixes for vulnerabilities that may impact the stability and usability of the server.
Our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers is as strong as ever, and we recognize discontinuing support for a product that has been as popular and reliable as Exchange Server 2010 can be an adjustment. We also know that some of you are in the midst of upgrades to a newer version of Exchange Server on-premises, or more transformative migrations to the cloud with Office 365 and Exchange Online. With this in mind, we are extending end of support to October 13th, 2020 to give Exchange Server 2010 customers more time to complete their migrations. This extension also aligns with the end of support for Office 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010, mentioned Greg Taylor of the Microsoft Exchange Team in a blog post.
To make the process of migration easy and hassle-free, Microsoft has created a page where it outlines different options. The page explores each option in detail. It says when choosing a migration option, you need to consider a few things like,
- The number of seats or mailboxes you need to move.
- How long you want the migration to last.
- Whether you need a seamless integration between your on-premises installation and Office 365 during the migration.
The software giant also believes and recommends migrating to Exchange Online and Office 365 is a good idea. It gives users access to the most secure and productive software with the lowest TCO.
