Nightstand Mode is a feature of Apple Watch that allows you to use the device as a nightstand clock, where it’s able to function as a regular digital clock which shows the time and date, complete with full alarm clock capabilities.
Usually Nightstand Mode is enabled by default, but if you’re not certain, here is how to enable Nightstand Mode right on Apple Watch:
- Open the Settings app on the Apple Watch and go to “General”
- Scroll down to find “Nightstand Mode” and toggle the switch to the ON position
How to Use Nightstand Mode with Apple Watch
Once Nightstand Mode is enabled, here is how to use the feature to transform your Apple Watch into a nightstand clock, which is incredibly simple:
- Connect the Apple Watch to the charger
- Turn the Apple Watch onto the side, with the side buttons facing up
You’ll know Nightstand Mode is working right away because a digital clock appears on the screen rather than whatever your default clock face is.
Once in Nightstand Mode, you can activate the screen in Nightstand Mode by touching the screen or by hitting any of the buttons on the device. When Nightstand Mode is entered, the side button will function as a means of turning the alarm clock off, and the round rotating Digital Crown button will snooze the alarm. Pulling the Apple Watch off of the charger immediately disables and exits Nightstand Mode.
You’ll need WatchOS 2.0 (or later) to have access to this feature, and aside from that you’ll just want to be sure Nightstand Mode itself is turned on.
