Microsoft is ending support for the older Outlook.com Android app. In January this year, Microsoft had released a new Outlook for Android app to replace the old Outlook.com Android app. If you have been using the old Android app, you must have already noticed the red bar alerting the users to upgrade as the support to this app is ending soon.

The Outlook.com team has started sending email to its customers informing about the new Outlook.com Android app. And it also now informs the date about End of Support to its old app.

“Shortly, on July 31, we’ll end support for the older Outlook.com Android app. “

It’s a right thing as maintaining and supporting two totally different versions of the same app is not a good idea. And the new app has better features suiting the touch interface. At present both app can run side-by-side. In the email the Outlook.com team also recommends advise for devices for older versions of Android below 4.0 as this new app requires you run at least Android 4.0. The email also suggests:

To continue the mail service, the team recommends:

  • For devices with Android 4.0 or higher (as most are having) : just upgrade to the new Outlook mobile app. It’s free, easy to set up, and works with most popular email services (Outlook.com, Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and more).
  • For devices with Android version below 4.0 : the new Outlook app requires that your device is running at least Android 4.0. If your device can’t upgrade to newer version of Android then you can continue to receive your email on your device‘s browser by going to www.outlook.com . Or can add your outlook.com address to device’s pre-installed email app .

If you are still using the old Android app get the new one from Google Play Store.
