Along with the release of Samsung’s ATIV S Windows 8 Phone, Samsung has also announced ATIV Windows 8 Tablet. This tablet is simply amazing as it is a combination of a Windows RT and ARM processors, which are quite in the news these days. Samsung has also told the story behind keeping this odd name ‘ATIV’ for the Windows 8 devices series. ‘ATIV’ is the word VITA spelled backwards. Vita, which means Life in Latin.
This tablet runs on Windows 8 RTM. It is a lightweight 10.1 inches tab weighing around 570 gms. Rather than using Intel’s x86 Architecture, this tablet runs on ARM processor which makes the experience on this touch interface a ‘Whoa’!
Samsung ATIV Windows 8 Tablet features
Talking about the technical specifications, the tablet runs on a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, a 2 GB RAM with a screen size of 10.1-inch (1366 x 768 pixels) and a HD display. The tablet is just 9mm thick and it comes with a 5 MP rear-facing camera, with auto flash and a 1.9 MP front-facing camera for features such as Video Calling, etc.
For connectivity purposes, the tablet comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 Host, 3.5 mm audio jack, Micro HDMI, NFC, S-GPS.
The internal memory of the device is 32/64 GB and can be extended up to 64 GB via Micro SD card. So that you never run out of battery, it comes with an 8200 mAh battery.
The other ready-to-use features include, connectivity with a HD TV or a projector using HDMI port and connectivity of any USB device via USB port.
As far as some extra features are concerned, the tablet comes with NFC with Tap & Send feature to share files using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It comes preloaded with Office Home and Student, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Other Windows features include, Bing Search, Bing Map, SkyDrive, Windows Store, Music and Games.
The experience in this tablet is completely new. We feel that this tablet will be good competition for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and Apple iPad. Samsung hasn’t revealed any information about its pricing yet.
