It is no surprise that Microsoft has been pushing the Edge browser to make it one of the best web browsing environments. As a part of this attempt, the company has introduced several features to the browser in the past year. Similarly, you can soon expect Edge to have a flyout menu for download management, allowing users to manage downloads from the toolbar itself.

Edge to enhance download management

This feature has been spotted on the Edge Canary version, which is the channel for testing the latest features. It is worth noting that Microsoft has not made any official announcement yet. A Reddit user had shared a few screenshots of the new feature on the r/Edge subreddit.

Clicking on the Downloads button would open up an interface that lists current and past downloads. You can pause/resume an ongoing download, open or save a file, and open files that you have downloaded. While it is an excellent feature, it isn’t that new or innovative. Users have been asking for the feature for a long period now.

Firefox is one of the many web browsers that have a similar feature, but Google Chrome still doesn’t have it. Therefore, the Download Management flyout menu could be one of the best trump cards Edge can hold in its battle against the Chrome browser.

Like the web clipper and the Reader Mode on the browser, the flyout menu for download management is a great addition for usability. It’s so useful and customizable that Edge users won’t need a third-party tool for download management.

Even if it’s not a complete replacement for third-party download managers, it will help users download multiple files at once. It is worth noting that Microsoft has worked on the minute aspects of this tool. For instance, you can open the flyout menu and right-click on individual downloads to locate, open, delete, and remove files from the Downloads list.

Although the Reddit user has shown full screenshots of the feature, we still do not know when the feature would arrive on Microsoft Edge’s public build. As of now, it can be spotted on the Canary/Dev version only.
