A valid payment method is necessary if you want to purchase apps from the App Store or subscribe to Apple’s services like iCloud, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and more. Some of you may have already linked a payment method when you first made your Apple ID (unless you created an Apple ID without credit card info anyway), but if it’s no longer valid or you got a new credit card that you want to use for purchases, you’ll need to add the new payment details manually.

How to Change Apple ID Payment Method on Mac
Whether it’s your credit card information or your PayPal account details, manually adding a new payment method is a pretty simple and straightforward procedure on macOS machines. Just follow the steps below to get started.
- Launch the App Store on your Mac from the Dock.
- This will take you to the Discover section of the App Store. Here, click on your Apple ID name located at the bottom of the left pane.
- Next, click on “View Information” located at the top next to the Redeem Gift Card option as shown in the screenshot below.
- Here, under the Apple ID Summary category, you’ll see your current payment information. Right next to it, you’ll see the option “Manage Payments”. Click on it to continue.
- This step is for those users who want to remove their current payment method before adding a new one. Click on “Edit” located next to your current payment method.
- This will display all the payment information and billing details. Click on the “Remove Payment Method” option at the bottom.
- Now, go back to the Manage Payments page and click on “Add Payment” to add your new payment details.
- Type in all the necessary payment information and click on “Done” to save it.
- This step is for those people who’re using multiple payment methods. Here, the default payment method is located at the top. To change your default payment method, you can use the arrows to re-arrange and move your preferred credit card to the top.
There you go. You’ve successfully managed to change your Apple ID payment method on your Mac.
