If you are interested in finding a COVID-19 testing location, Apple Maps may be able to help track down a place where you can get tested for the novel coronavirus.
Finding COVID-19 testing facilities near you, or even in a different region, is quite easy with Apple Maps. Here’s all that you will need to do:
How to Find COVID-19 / Coronavirus Testing with Apple Maps
- Open the Apple Maps app on iPhone (or iPad)
- Tap in the “Search” field
- At the top of the Search list tap on “COVID-19 Testing”
- Locate a COVID-19 testing location near you
- Tap on a search result to see contact information for the coronavirus testing location
You will notice that many of the facilities are hospitals and healthcare centers, as well as some labs and doctor offices.
Be sure to call ahead to where ever you are thinking of getting a COVID test to make sure you are eligible to receive a test, and also to understand procedures for getting the coronavirus test.
Note that not all of the COVID-19 testing locations shown in Apple Maps will be able to actually test you, as who is actually able to be tested seems to vary dramatically based on location, capacity, state and local guidelines, CDC guidelines, and other variables that differ widely based on many factors. Some regions testing are much more strict than others, and some states will only test very specific people who have particular exposure and other health risks. If you aren’t sure what applies to your area, use the Apple Maps COVID-19 test finding feature and simply call the location(s) you are thinking of inquiring with.
It’s also not entirely clear what type of tests are being used at each location, and that likely varies per testing center too. So some COVID tests may be looking for antibodies while others may be looking for active coronavirus infections, but that’s something you should be able to figure out with the healthcare provider.
If you’re concerned about coronavirus, the latest versions of iOS offer an anonymized COVID-19 exposure notification feature that when combined with a local health app will alert your iPhone if you have come into contact with someone who tested positive. That feature is dependent on whether local health authorities support the feature in your particular area and have contact tracing apps that work in combination to the feature, and most do not.
