Lenovo launches ThinkReality, a HoloLens competitor

Continuing its expansion, Lenovo has announced a new VR/AR platform named as ThinkReality includes both software and hardware. The system comprises of a software platform and the AR headset. The Android-based Lenovo AR Headset weighs 380 grams and comes with two fisheye front cameras with 1080p visuals per eye and a 13-megapixel RGS sensor. It offers a 40-degree diagonal field of view for each eye. The visuals are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SOC, and it can last up to four hours of continuous use time, thanks to its 6,800mAh battery.

Lenovo says,

Created as part of Lenovo’s smarter business initiative, ThinkReality™ is a newly launched sub-brand that brings businesses a solutions-based approach comprised of both software and hardware. It is designed to help enterprise workers use AR applications to receive assistance, reduce repair times, eliminate errors, streamline complex workflows, improve training quality, collaborate and save money.

ThinkReality comes with some wonderful features like voice control, gaze tracking, navigation, and gesture controls. Also, you can use it while it’s charging. Furthermore, the device also comprises an Intel Movidius chips powering waveguide optics.

Lenovo claims this is “one of the lightest fully featured AR headsets in its class”.

With its simple belt clip, it is pretty easy to wear it at work.

ThinkReality Platform

Lenovo ThinkReality A6 comes with a software platform which is specially designed to help users creating their own AR apps for their businesses. Users can choose the operating system as per their choice and usage, be it Microsoft’s platform or the proprietary system of Lenovo.

Lenovo ThinkReality A6 is specially designed for enterprise users and is compatible with the existing AR content. It lets users interact with the 3D digital information in the real world, which will certainly improve the contextual awareness and increase productivity. The device and the software together will help the enterprise customers to manage the AR & VR software across multiple devices.

Although it is already being compared to Microsoft Hololens, it is tough to predict that it will compete against it or not. The price details or the launch date is not yet confirmed by Lenovo. Stay tuned for more update on this.
