OneDrive app mysteriously blocks Windows 10 v2004 update

It looks like the OneDrive app is preventing some Windows 10 users from installing Windows 10 2004. Microsoft is taking its time to upgrade Windows 10 PCs to its latest major software update. However, many users experience trouble upgrading their operating system for some reason or the other, often due to either incompatible drivers or hardware specifications.

Windows 10 v2004 update blocked by OneDrive

Now, the OneDrive app is another reason why some Windows 10 users are unable to install theWindows 10 2004 update. According to an official forum complaint, the Windows 10 2004 update process is being blocked by an app: OneDrive and Legacy filters. A user wrote:

“I’m trying to do a feature update of Windows 10 from 1909 to 2004. However, during the install, I get what appears to be a blocking app. the *_HumanReadable.xml file tells me the name of the app is “OneDrive and Legacy filters” with a AppGuid of {afb67a42-a10a-48a0-9677-77b4d80efecc}, neither of which I can find in Add/Remove Programs, Win32_Product, or HKLM:SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall.”

Another user wrote:

“We’re having the exact same problem you are, the *_HumanReadable.xml file gives us the same error about the “OneDrive and Legacy filters” app with a AppGuid of {afb67a42-a10a-48a0-9677-77b4d80efecc}. We are using WSUS for in place 2004 upgrades, and only have experienced this issue on some of our machines. Some machines of the same model (same hardware, drivers, etc) have this issue, while others upgrade to 2004 properly.”

According to Microsoft, code 0xC1900208 means Windows 10 2004 setup found an actionable compatibility issue. For example, an incompatible app, which may be causing the issue related to OneDrive and Legacy filters.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has acknowledged that after updating to Windows 10 2004, some older devices or devices with certain older apps installed that use legacy file system filter drivers might be unable to connect to OneDrive via the OneDrive app. To address this issue, Microsoft is currently working on a fix and will provide an update in its upcoming Windows 10 release.

Given the fact that Windows 10 users are facing issues updating Windows 10 2004 due to certain compatibility issues, users are advised to update to the latest version of the OneDrive application or remove the application altogether. Uninstalling or reinstalling OneDrive should ideally work. If it still doesn’t solve the issue, it’s better to wait since Microsoft is expected to provide users with an official solution pretty soon.
