If you’re looking to secure your car on a budget, you can preorder the Ring Car Cam from Amazon before the end of the month and save $50.
Ring recently branched out into car dash cams, unveiling its low-profile device at this month’s CES in Las Vegas. It launches on Feb. 15 for $249.99, but if you order before Jan. 31, it’s just $199.99.

Placed between the bottom of the windshield and top of the dashboard, the Car Cam has two wide-angle cameras with night vision—one road-facing to capture driving footage, and one cabin-facing to protect against break-ins. Like Ring’s home cameras, the Car Cam’s motion detectors sense an intrusion, collision, or other event involving the vehicle, “wake up” when triggered to record, and send an alert to the Ring mobile app.
A microphone and speaker let users remotely talk to anyone in the car through the Ring app, so you can potentially discourage a car thief from afar. The Traffic Stop function, meanwhile, captures up to 20 minutes of video when you say, “Alexa, record”—even if you’re parked with the engine turned off.
And, when you want some privacy, simply flip up the built-in cover to turn off the mic and block the cabin-facing camera. You can also disable location sharing at any time through the Ring app.
Features like alerts require an internet connection for the camera, which supports Wi-Fi and LTE. The former works within range of your home network, while the latter requires a $6-per-month (or $60 annual) Ring Protect Go subscription, which also enables 180 days of cloud storage of automatically recorded clips.
As an added perk, owners can geo-locate their vehicle, so even if someone ignored your verbal warnings and stole the car anyway, you can track their movement and alert authorities to their exact location, provided they don’t chuck the device out the window.
For safety purposes, Ring recommends folks use Car Cam—powered by the vehicle’s battery—only in automobiles where the OBD-II port is located to the left of the steering wheel. Enter the year, make, and model of your car online to confirm compatibility.
The Ring Car Cam launches on Feb. 15 for $249.99. But you can get it now for $199.99—$50 off—if you preorder before Jan. 31.
