★★★★☆ Reset PC, Switch out of S Mode, Do Not Install McAfee. Windows S Mode and McAfee are glitchy performance killers and restrictive applications. Switching out of Win 11 S mode should be a straight forward process but it just does not work as it should, along with McAfee installed, whether you want it or not. McAfee acts like a worm virus, intrusively imbedding itself deep into system architecture instead of being a gate keeper like other anti-virus apps. Windows S Mode dose not allow you to install and run any app that is not Microsoft verified and found on the Microsoft Store. In S Mode, you cannot install and run any browser other than MS Edge or Bing. There is an app within the MS Store to switch out of S mode but it will not work because, I suspect, of the bloated software that launches when you first turn on and set up this laptop. Switching out of S Mode is permanent. All the advise and direction I found to get this switch to work had failed. Lots of frustrated people out there with the same issue. I finally got MS Support on the phone and they told me this is a very common problem with this product and the only way to resolve it was to reset the PC. A total reset, wiping the OS and all files you may have added. No big deal as this is a new PC and I did not transfer anything from my old PC. After the PC was reset, I was able to switch out of S mode so that I now have Win 11 Home instead of Win 11S Home. At the same time, a McAfee install popup was automatically prompted so I could select Do Not Install. This was all a bit of a pain but other than that, this laptop is not so bad. The display colors are not as vibrant as I hoped but with a resolution of only 1365 x 768, I should have expected that. However, the graphics display very well on a connected higher resolution monitor and it handles steaming video from Amazon Prime Video beautifully. I hope this information can help someone avoid the frustration of dealing with what was intentionally sold as a very restrictive operating environment. Getting rid of S Mode and McAfee gives you back unrestricted use of your laptop.One more annoying detail is that, by default, this operating environment is set to save everything to the MS cloud. The default storage of Document, Downloads, Pictures, etcetera, are all MS cloud folders which is where every file is stored unless you go through a few more clicks to store the files on your local laptop drive. By default, initially you cannot even boot up this laptop without entering your MS PIN to log onto your laptop, and thereby logging into your MS account at the same time. I found this a bit presumptuous that MS thought this was a good idea. Perhaps good for their own marketing efforts though, as some bot scans your files for things you do in order to tailor marketing ad pushes to you personally, but I digress. If you do not want Big Brother holding on to all your personal, professional, private, or other data, then you need to go in to system settings and turn off the MS log in PIN. Doing so allows you to boot up your laptop to your local drive account only. You can always log in and log out of your MS account if and when you choose at any time. Of course, you can even turn off your own laptop log in password so it just simply turns on. without a password. Your choice, as it should be.

★★★★★ Cant play roblox, cheap but powerful pc. I recently purchased this HP Stream 14" HD BrightView Laptop. I was disappointed with its performance. I think it's better to spend a little more money and get a better computer. You cant even play simple games like roblox, the material feels cheap and looks cheap. The resolution is bad, but for just work it's pretty powerful. Just make sure to turn off S mode. I wouldn't buy this if I were you. Unless its strictly for work. I also suggest getting a refurbished Mac air 2013 , old but runs better and looks better than this.

Mine just came in yesterday and I have started the process of setting it up today (only 2 days); I’ve downloaded Google Chrome and a reputable subscription based VPN app (S mode was deactivated for the purpose of downloading Chrome). After downloading those two, I set up 2 administrator users and one standard user. In the process of setting up the other administrator user: the laptop crashed and the screen turned black. I’ve tried hard resetting and am leaving it to charge overnight. My intended use was for education for when I’m not at home (I have a desktop and obviously no one is going to bring a whole tower to every class they go to) so I wasn’t planning to use anything fancy — word and chrome.In terms of performance before it crashed:1) CPU was at 100% and was still slow when opening up apps (I wasn’t far from my main mesh router and my actual desktop works fine so can’t be internet problem)2) It made me do a recovery startup when I first unpackaged and logged into my microsoft acccount and the startup took about 20 minutes3) Breeze it up — it felt warm on the bottom after an hourThinking about returning it if the laptop still doesn’t turn on (I’ve tried 2 different outlets in 2 different rooms — [wall plug] and [my extender that has anker charger and an air purifier plugged in]) tmr afternoon).Edit: I’m returning it and getting a refund; had it plugged in for a couple of days now and have been attempting to turn it on daily — no success; laptop still does not turn on

There is an error message ever since I opened it that says “Boot Device Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk”. The laptop was already slow to begin with which is why I barely used it. If I had known I never would have purchased them. What a waste of money.

Every time I try to turn it on, the screen starts flashing and won’t fully power up, making it completely unusable. I’ve only used the laptop for light tasks like general coursework and writing, so it’s not like it was overworked or pushed beyond basic use.Another frustrating aspect is that when you first receive the laptop, it’s locked in “S” Mode. This severely limits what you can do because you can only download apps from the Microsoft Store. While you can switch out of “S” Mode, it’s an extremely tedious task and an unnecessary inconvenience, especially for a laptop that already struggles with functionality.For a device that’s supposed to handle basic tasks, this has been a disappointing experience. I can’t recommend this laptop to anyone looking for something reliable.

If you're lured to these by an Amazon flash offer, and begin to compare other options/offers, be sure to throughly compare the descriptions. Or you'll purchase something you didn't want. If you find this out after you set everything up and there is no problem with the computer itself, you're stuck with it. The other issue I had was the inability to exit Win 11 S mode. After hours of trying the standard method and several youtube videos with complex work arounds, I gave up. Today I decided to express my feelings in the MS Edge search window and I received this response from Copilot. (posted in the picture above). I post because subsequent requests produced different results. This work around worked quickly and was a three step fix. Have exited S mode and am happily running Google Chrome. Plus all my Google info and files from my broken laptop ported over. One last note: this is definitely a computer for students. It is priced reasonably considering post Covid greedflation prices. It is comparetively slow and not for use use for gamers. I will keep it as I need a computer for research and writing papers.5/30/2024-My laptop broke. Needed to complete paperwork for a project with tight time lured by "Deal" for laptop with 4GB ram 64 storage Bluetooth, Wi-Fi. $169, 12hr delivery. I figure it was good enough to get my work done. At the site several other options were available with the same features and more memory. All had delivery dates of 1=2 days except 1 with 8GB ram, 192GB storage for $259 w/ $40 coupon, Thought extra memory and storage was worth extra $90. Computer arrived. It took an 1-1/2 hr to do updates. When I tried to download Chrome to work in Google docs {state recommended for changes}. This computer is locked into MS S mode blocking download of apps not in MS store. After spending 2hrs trying different S mode exit directions is was resolved to doing the work on my Samsung S20 which took 3 hours to do 1 hr of work. This computer doesn't have Bluetooth, is extremely slow. MS locks y into using Edge in a worse case scenario than they did with Explorer 25 yrs ago. Don't be lured by the free1yr of Home 365. Cannot return because I used it and is technically not broken. HP is obviously returning to the days of cheap low-grade Compaq. Clearest example of Greedflation. It also moved data from broken laptop creating what will be hours of scrubbing to sell at 1/2 price on Ebay.

I am literally writing this review on this laptop in class.I just wanted a (Windows) laptop that I can code on and do a couple assignments while on campus. I never have to worry about the battery dying on me unless it was already really low. It is surprisingly fast but obviously not as fast as a $2000 laptop. Fast enough I would say.Right out of the box, I was instantly very surprised at how good quality everything felt and looked. It is actually pretty large in size but not cumbersome. But as I keep using it I do have some nitpicks about it:- The screen portion is pretty bendable to the point where I feel like you can easily break it. Now I don't know who would do that on purpose but you should watch out.- No backlight on keyboard makes it hard to see keys in low light.- Keyboard feels sort of hollow. Probably because it is cheap.- Fan is noticeably loud, say if the class is quiet. But I do prefer it to be cool and be a little bit loud than it be hot.- Fan ramps up randomly. Like I could have a simple assignment up with 2 tabs open and it could kick on for some reason even though the workload is not much. Then other times I have a bunch of tabs and another application open but it will stay silent.Other than that it is perfect if you need a cheap laptop to get some work done at school or code like me. Definitely recommend.

EXCEPT when you read the title you will see something called “S-MODE” OH MY GOSH. S-MODE IS A PRISON CELL. I could not figure out how to turn it off even tho it tells you and brings you to the app. The app wouldn’t load and microsoft store was being very annoying. I handed the laptop off to my brother and he said he went to the registry and took it off there. I forget some of the things that he told me did but yea he went INTO the laptops registry and was able to take it off there and he restarted the computer and it was gone! now it runs fine but you wont be able to do much of heavy gaming which is what i bought for the laptop for in the first place! because it wouldn’t run any of the games i was trying i decided to use shadow. literally the best app to ever be created literally she can run anything from minecraft with high end shaders and loads of mods to sims 4 also packed with cc! so what im saying is if you buy this laptop to play games shadow is a GREAT thing to use it makes it so the laptop basically runs like a gaming pc. the games rarely lag unless she’s connected to our weaker internet! Which is why a ethernet cord would be so AMAZING if you are using shadow on the laptop

But it is louder than anticipated when starting up or plugging in to charge. I purchased this model: (HP 255 G10 Laptop, Ryzen 3 7330U, 15.6", 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD with Windows 11 Pro) from the seller Chromebook Prosale via Amazon for $399 in December of 2024.I had to return the first one because it had a RAM error. Every other time I started it, the Caps Lock LED would blink (3 long and two short). According to the documentation, that meant a RAM issue. Might have just needed a cleaning or the RAM was installed improperly. (more on that later.) I'll never know because I didn't want to void the warranty. So I sent it back and the seller promptly sent a new one. No errors on that one. YAY!Booted it up and it indeed had no errors, recognized all hardware, and had Windows 11 Pro installed. All good. Pretty quick. WiFi has typical range. There are two USB ports, one HDMI port, and one 1/8" audio jack. Battery holds a charge like a champ. No security port. However, I'm pretty satisfied with this laptop.Being satisfied, I then voided the warranty and opened the system to take a look. (I don't recommend this for the casual user because, though I'm not sure, I think it will void your warranty - if they find out that is!)Now the interesting part:TLDR: Be careful when buying from third-party sellers. You might save money, but you never know where the laptop has been or whose grubby paws were inside it!See attached image of the RAM. Note that only one stick is covered with a sticker. This leads me to believe that HP built this laptop with 8 GB of RAM (1 stick) originally. I can't prove it, but I think that the seller (or another intermediary) installed the 2nd stick of RAM to bring it up to 16 GB. Three clues led me to this deduction (which is guesswork): 1 - the lack of a sticker. That's weak sauce, and HP QA would probably not let that pass before leaving the manufacturer. 2. One of the panel's front corners was slightly lifted off two of the clips, as if the person who closed the panel (after installing the RAM) didn't finish the job properly. Made it easier for me to pop the panel though! 3. The first laptop I received had that RAM issue I mentioned. That would probably not pass QA at an HP manufacturing plant either. Standard procedure is to have a system booted at least three times.Am I happy with my assumption? No. But I'll deal with it after inspecting the RAM installed and comparing it with the first 8 GB stick. The laptop looks clean and I inspected Windows 11 as well for any "weirdness" or inappropriate programs.That said, would I purchase this again or recommend it. Only if a person's sole criteria for buying was price. Generally, I recommend buying laptops from the manufacturer directly.

★☆☆☆☆ Do not buy from 'Chromebook Prosale'. Bought this laptop for school and it was absolutely perfect, for a few weeks until it crashed and gave an error code. I tried to request a refund but it was 1 day past the 30 day window. I tried to file an asurian claim but was told since it was so new I had to deal with the manufacturers warranty. HP had to send a package to me to send it back so it took a few weeks before I finally got contacted by them. They informed me the laptop had been filled with cheap aftermarket parts voiding their warranty and recommended not buying off Amazon because of sketchy sellers like Chromebook Prosale. Had to wait for the computer to return and then contacted Amazon and explained the situation and they told me I had to go direct with the seller. They demanded I try a bunch of basic trouble shooting techniques despite HP already diagnosing it. Finally they agreed to a refund and issued a return tag to ship it. It arrived to them in 3 days but they refused to process a return for another 10 days claiming it was Amazon's policy and they have nothing to do with it.If you buy from them you are rolling the dice, because if it breaks I can assure you they will fight you every step of the way to get it returned or fixed.

If you're going from one HP to this one, a lot of your settings and apps and documents will transfer over, even your background picture. I had an old Hoyle games CD-Rom that wouldn't run on this, but everything else did. I use my laptop for writing, email, video-conferencing and surfing the internet, and it does all those things very well. And the price is right. ★★★★★ Amazing laptop. This laptop is honestly a steal at the price! It’s beautiful, sleek and extremely functional. It has great graphics and audio. It can handle doing many different tasks at once (which is great because I need to have a lot of split screens due to schoolwork.) The keyboard is nice and the keys make a nice soft clicking sound, so it’s great for taking notes in a quite class or in the library (as long as you’re not too aggressive with typing of course). It’s great at keeping up with what you need to do, the only downside is the battery does not last the longest. I would say I have to charged it every few hours, but as long as you’re near a charging port (I thankfully am in most of my classes) it shouldn’t cause too much of an issue. Overall this laptop is AMAZING! I highly recommend it to someone who needs the power of a $1000+ laptop but not the budget for one.

Even bigger plus was the color because, I love Rose Gold, okay? Even further, I loved that this computer was American-made by a small business and I am all for supporting that. I received it faster than expected. It was super nice, sturdy without being heavy. Nice, big screen, the camera has a privacy sheild. I love the full keyboard and the fingerprint feature. I abolutely adore the logo (side note haha) I am returning it only because I found that I needed a better graphics card- the four cores weren't quite cutting it but this is still a great price for this computer I just did not know I would need a more powerful card than the one in this machine but I am going with an upgraded version from this company and have already ordered it. I have an iPhone, so while I like the brand, I needed something great- but not expensive, so I researched some start ups.I chose this brand (NIMO). At first I was happy to find a start up in Ohio, and I was happy to see that the company was looking to create a laptop that is easy to use, fits within a reasonable budget, and created in the US.The weight and size seemed to fit my needs, and fell way under budget! In fact, the price was a bit worrisome- as you know, we often get what we pay for. Well, I could not be happier; the picture & color is beautiful, plus I love the size. The color of the case is beautiful and the material is durable.The only thing I do wish is that the sound was louder;I love watching movies on it because the size is perfect for spaces without a TV, but the volume just doesn’t go quite loud enough. I do however recognize this could be my hearing loss, so I am still giving this⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ five stars!Would definitely recommend for teens or adults.

★★★★☆ Nifty and efficient chromebook. I have purchased seven laptop/chrombooks last three years. The PCs have not fared good. One died and another is on its last leg, as the screen became detached from the keyboard. The only one that remains on the PC scale is an 11.6 HP I bought after this one which is super slow and has a poor camera. The Apple is ok but needs a battery. Then I have four chromebooks of different sizes from 11.6 to 15.6. This fits in the middle at 14 inches. The design is slick and very flat. It looks like a mac. It feels lighter than the others which are described as heavier. I think because of the design. It has a white keyboard which is the best thing next to a lit keyboard. I purposely looked for a white keyboard. The computer works fine dependent on what you want to do. I like to do light programming, store and edit pictures, writing, internet, music, movies, and games. It is not a powerhouse but it can do alot more than the HP PC I also got (11.6) for about the same price. This works so much better. It works better than the other chromebooks. The camera is better than the HP PC. But the best thing is the amazing battery life. You will get 12 hours easy. The battery does not drain when closed. Other chromebooks have died after a couple of days of just being closed. Not this one. It uses the same plug for my android. This gives you charging options virtually everywhere.Overall a good purchase. Best Chromebook I got and better than the 11.6 HP PC. The apple beats it of course, but the battery on this one makes up for any glaring deficiences.

There needs to be a lot of updates to make this laptop usable.The first thing the stood out to me is the space, I understand that you can put an SD card but why? Shouldn't every functional laptop come with enough space? I've seen phones with more space than this chromebook.Secondly, like I said before it feels like a tablet with a keyboard because you can only download "apps" from the Google play store. Why apps? This just seems so cheesy to me because it gives me mobile phone vibes. It turns me off from wanting to use it.Thirdly, you can't download game files directly from the web for steam, origin etc. You have to allow use of this third-party Linux (beta) files, do some coding crap, and transfer to files over to Linux. And when you do this, you're only left with about 5GB - 7GB of space on the entire chromebook, which makes no sense because now your steam has no purpose because you're unable to download the games due to low storage space.Lastly, you have to use the mobile versions of Microsoft Word, excel, PowerPoint etc. You know the things just about every laptop brand should allow you to get.Long story short, if you are getting this for you kids, cool. They can download apps, play games and watch YouTube. However, if you are an adult and you're using this for more purposes other than research for college. It's pretty useless. I honestly want to return it but I got whatbI payed for. I will honestly not recommend this to anyone else. My review may be harsh but I don't want anyone to experience the disappointment I've felt while purchasing my very first laptop.

I have a lot of fun typing with it, it is fast with a phone chipset, vivid, light and quiet, and it does not heat up much like other Windows laptops in the market with the same range of price. Of course, it is a Chrome-based operating system, so you won't have Office and other Windows-based applications. I have had nothing but good experiences with ASUS laptops.Pros: 1) Easy to use for most apps out of the box; 2) Adaptive options (I need visual adaptations); 3) Chrome OS is stable; Excellent camera for video calls (I didn't have to balance this laptop on a box.); 4) fast and no hang ups.Cons:1) Not all Android apps work on the Chrome OS. Microsoft 365 apps can only be used in the online versions which lack some functionality, although Microsoft has recently added features; 2) Initially, the computer wouldn't let me log in. I had to reset the operating system to be able to initially log in; 3) the computer is very sensitive to the strength of your wi-fi network.If you want to use Microsoft 365 apps on this computer, don't install OneDrive or any MS Word related extensions for the Chrome browser. Any of these will prevent MS 365 apps from running online.All in all, an excellent general purpose laptop.

★★★★★ Sturdy & fair price. This is/was a few $ more than my previous Asus Chromebooks while boasting similar stats. Unlike this, either of my prior computers boasted a sturdy design. Both lasted longer than expected and survived serious damage. While I was annoyed to need to spend about $80 more for a comparably equipped Chromebook, I can say that this is notably more robust feeling and rigid than the others. It's not light, but it's similar to Chromebooks that have had in the past. One month of ownership is two soon to speak to it's durability. My rating reflects my lack of disappointment. My only concern is that it's sharp edges and more rigid design will actually be a point of weakness rather than strength as they seem more likely to break than bend when dropped or bumped. My previous Chromebooks withstood multiple spills and splashes despite not having been advertised as being water resistant. I have not tested this but hope that this laptop is even more spill resistant than my past Chromebooks.

It's a Chromebook it seems fabulous in every other way but I am older and want a touch screen. When the second one arrived and was not a touch screen, it is described poorly by the seller. The only navigation is Voice or touchpad.

★★★★★ The first delivery didn’t arrive which I refunded and ordered another one. Been using it for lightweight web browsing and email and the battery life is really great! it’s one of the cheaper chromebook with a usb-c port charger which was convenient to charge. The rugged material is a bonus too
