Used Laptops vs. Refurbished Laptops – What’s The Difference?

★★★★★ For the money you can't beat it. I've had this for a week now, and I'm going to try to do my best to give a thorough review.Pros:- It came in great, impeccable condition, really, with the right charger and everything.- Awesome battery life- Comfortable keyboard- Easy to navigate (I used to have a decent windows HP but it got destroyed due to a water accident, so I wanted something cheap that works, primarily for creative writing. I have limited experience with Chromebooks, but this has been super easy to learn)- Even though this Chrombook comes on it's last update (see Cons), there are still plenty of helpful add-ons to be downloaded from the Play Store. For example, the voice recorder I downloaded (and internal mic of the chromebook) produces better sound quality than my moderately expensive HP- I like the sleek, all black design- It doesn't run hot or loudCons:- Wifi detection can be pretty weak, so make sure you have access to a strong wifi connection- Headphone jack seems to be a little worn out, so sometimes depending on how I move the chord, the sound quality in my headphones changes (this is probably a problem that is exclusive to my chromebook)- It is a tad slower overall than middle to high end laptops, but not unbearable- Since Chrome is on it's last update, you can't download crucial extensions like Adblock.Overall, for 62 dollars or something after taxes, this is an amazing laptop. Frankly, I love it, and all the cons are not deal breakers at all. I guess it also comes down to the quality of the individual Chromebook that is shipped to you, as I suspect some are in better condition than others, but if Amazon's inspection process has improved, then I would think that the odds of getting a dud are less and less.Bottom line: If you want a laptop that's good and cheap, this is perfect for browsing, watching videos, writing. It's a tad slower than your higher end laptops, but oh well. It's fantastic, really.

★☆☆☆☆ Damaged. Please do not buy a chrome book from them.. horrible condition, the screen does not turn on, scratches all over it. This is a scam i think these people are passing around the same damage chrome book nobody wants and keep returning. I pray amazon flagged them from selling this product. The chrome book should be a donation to goodwill instead of trying to sale it to anybody who would take it. The pawn shop would probably not take the reason they are scamming to sale it online to people when it should just go to goodwill for somebody 2yr old kid to play with it as a toy since it not even that functional at all i would not sale that book to dog its was horrible. No way anything on Amazon should be sold looking like that. I want my money back. Go donate blood if you looking for money instead of trying to bleed money out of people passing around the same damaged chrome book you know do not work and not functional at all.

★★★★☆ Cosmetic Issues but it Works. This was a Christmas present and I’m glad I told them it was refurbished because the sticker they applied to the casing was peeling off. Also, you can’t update Chrome because the device is so old so you can’t add extensions. Not a big deal for what my mom needs but it would have been nice to know. Can’t complain for the price though.

We bought this Chromebook, just to run an app for a Smartboard for my wife's classroom.The unit was nice and clean, ran the Smartboard fine, and we were happy with the price. After about 2 weeks, one of the shift keys stopped working. We asked for an exchange, and got a 2nd unit. This one had issues right out of the box. The scroll pad, just does not respond correctly. Also, the Smartboard won't fully function with this unit.We were going to get a 3rd unit, but you can't, until the others are returned. But my wife is at least getting by with the original, until we get a fully working replacement. We decided to try a refurbished HP Chromebook, and are going to return the two Dells for a refund.

★★★★★ Amazeballs from start to finish. I needed a cheap laptop quickly for a few projects I'm working on and this one has exceeded my expectations. For the price I wasn't expecting it to look and behave like a new one. It is the perfect size to work on without being too wide or bulky. It fits in what my mom calls my "movie going purse" (if you know , you know 😁). I ordered it late in the day, so I expected it to ship the next day but to my utter joy I received a message a couple hours later saying it shipped and would arrive by 10pm the next day. I was pretty excited that I would get it a full day before I expected. Once again though, my expectations were exceeded in the most wonderful way when I woke up to the notification that my package had been delivered. There was obvious care taken in the packaging to ensure that nothing could harm this refurbished beauty. I have to give props to the delivery peoples as well because the box it shipped in was even in pristine condition which tells me that from start to finish everyone involved in the handling of my purchase treated it like I imagine they would would their own. Anytime I need anything else I know who to look for!

★★☆☆☆ Sooo janky but for the price, what do you ezpect. This laptop is obviously dirt cheap and I guess you get your money’s worth. But it’s soooo slow, so janky, I mean literally takes minutes to load a new browser page. Battery life is pretty terrible so I wouldn’t take it out and about without the charger. I bought this so I could still do schoolwork on a backpacking trip in Colombia and it served its purpose, although it can be pretty frustrating to use. But I think if you’re in a situation where you just need a super temporary, cheap solution, this will do just fine.

★★★★★ Excellent Value for Refurbished Dell E6420 Laptop. I am giving this laptop 5 stars, as this really is a great value overall.On the positive side, my "refurbished" laptop arrived in extremely great shape, with no discernible scratches and fully functional. I went ahead and checked the internals as well, (not for your average home user), and it was very clean. My particular unit was manufactured in May of 2012, and I am thinking it did not have a lot of mileage to it. It does come with a new clean installation of Windows 7 64 bit Professional, ready to boot up and install. The battery seemed in good shape, and passed the Dell website battery diagnostic test. In addition, while these machines are out of original warranty, (3 years), the Dell website is full of easy to use support options, even offering an extended warranty if you wish to pay for it. A machine like this, refurbished from Dell proper, will run $700 to $800. You might want to read the reviews on the Dell E6420 on the Web, as it is a robust laptop, made for travel and not made of egg shells. Fantastic machine.On the critical side, my unit came with the i5-2410M Intel Sandy Bridge processor, and not the i5-2520, (as advertised), and the i5-2410M is slightly slower, with a base of 2.3 Ghz., and turbo boost (sustained) of 2.8 Ghz. In addition, the 4 GB of RAM, (2 x 2 GB modules), were miss matched in speed, so they were only running at 533 Mhz, and not 667 Mhz. I went ahead and changed them out to new 2 new Corsair RAM modules at 4 GB, for a total of 8 GB dual channel memory, now running at 800 Mhz. I was not crazy about the old Samsung 128 GB SSD that came with the Laptop, so I changed it out to a new Toshiba 256 GB Q Series Pro SSD, and I ran an additional clean install of Windows 7 64 bit Professional. The new RAM and new SSD made a reasonably fast laptop even faster. You can use this laptop for very demanding applications without the computer lagging or slowing down. The only area this laptop might fall short on would be for intensive graphics associated with complex PC games, 3D rendering, or intense video editing. For most business and home applications, this laptop will more then keep up.Keep in mind, that if you need any additional drivers or support, you can get it all at the Dell website. I went ahead and updated the BIOS and checked for the most up to date drivers off of the Dell website.Also, be prepared to take some time on the first install of Windows 7, that there will be about 200 to 220 updates needed almost immediately once you get the machine up and running and hooked up to the Internet. On the bright side, you did not get a new laptop with a "ton" of stupid bloatware and junk you did not want or need.These Dell Machines do come in slightly different configurations, and are being sold by different secondary vendors. Mine came from TechHarvard, but there are 2 or 3 other vendors selling these as well under this same heading. While I feel very positive about buying this refurbished laptop, and I know I got an excellent value, individual results may vary.Quite frankly, I would buy this machine again, and I would buy this refurbished Dell laptop ahead of most of the new junk that you can find in the Retail stores. If you are on a budget, and you need a great laptop, you could not go wrong buying this unit. If you are not on a budget, go ahead and get the new Dell E6440 laptop, but be prepared to fork over $1,200 or so for the privilege. Trust me, the Dell E6440 is not going to perform much better then this refurbished E6420, and if the new E6440 comes with a standard hard drive instead of an SSD, it will be a slower machine.If in doubt, just buy it.(Edit and Update Jan 2017). I did go ahead and upgrade this Laptop PC to Windows 10 Pro, during the Summer of 2016. I am happy to share that I ran into "Zero" issues with the upgrade, and had no driver issues. Even at this particular time of update, a year and a half after I have purchased this machine, it is still running strong and it is a better value than the Laptops you might get at a Big Box Store. FYI.

★☆☆☆☆ Not worth it. I really wanted to be excited about these computers. I know others who have bought them and are really happy with their purchase, but that was not the case for us.We 2 for our kids to use for school. They have heavier cases and built in cd/dvd drives. Both computers have trouble charging. The screens go black when the charger is plugged in and one of the computer's screen goes dim for no apparent reason. They both run extremely slow and have trouble connecting to the internet - none of our other computers/devices have this trouble. One of the computers freezes on a regular basis making it impossible to use. Neither computer has anything other than basic programs loaded (Microsoft Office, Dragon Speak, AVG, Firefox is all they have on them).Bottom line: they aren't worth the money saved.

★★★★☆ Mine has a dead pixel and minor scuffing. Mine arrived quickly and well packaged. I was disappointed to find a dead pixel in the lower left corner, about 2" from either side (so very in the way).However, the only job this laptop has is to output to a 32" television in our front room as a media center PC. As such, the actual laptop screen is never used.Had I been using it as a real notebook, I would have returned for an exchange.My unit does have light scuffing, indicative of a definitely used item.Having said all that, the laptop is very speedy. The clean install of Win 7 booted up and has caused me no problems. I haven't bothered entering the included product key, though I'm sure it's valid.I was hesitant to see how well the notebook handled 1080p videos in VLC and YouTube and was pleasantly surprised to see it plays all videos well.All in all, it was a good buy for its intended use.

Retired after 39 years as systems analyst and now enjoy my 5 bedroom house which my stepdaighter bought for me and my wife of 28 uears. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in the main house and the garage is converted to a bedroom and bathroom. It has a pool and jacuzzi in the back yard. I enjoy watching youtube videos on my laptop so when my laptop failed a few week ago I ordered a refurbished Lenovo Chromebook last week and received it today.It plays my Youtube videos prrfectly which is great as I am retired andenjoy Youtube daily.The only thing missing is cd or dvd player. As i received Youtube and Amazon prime a few months ago as part of my hish sevice a few months ago. I am enjoying the channels immensely being an 11 year member of Amazon Prime.

★★★★☆ Super Value. Chromebooks have truly become a disposable commodity. My college daughter had an ASUS that died and needed one ASAP before she returned to classes after Spring Break. As long as it worked, for seventy bucks I was going to be happy. For a "Refreshed" computer, I was more than happy with this Lenovo 300e. Yeah, it doesn't have the touch screen and yes, there are some minor cosmetic blemishes. Also, the "5" key has a bit of an extra click to it.That's all that wrong with it though. For what it is, it is powerful and quick enough. The screen and audio are good, and the keyboard is surprisingly high quality. The trackpad works nicely, and the battery life is good. I wish it had a 2nd USB C port, but just about everything else is there and works or isn't needed. My daughter is happy with it and says it is as good or better than her previous Chromebook.~ Kort

There are some cosmetic imperfections and not in pristine condition, but it's to be expected for the price. My biggest issue is several keys on the keyboard keep sticking or are hard to press. It makes it hard for a kid to learn to type. I currently am waiting on an exchange through Amazon and will update my review if the new one is better.One note: I first contacted the seller and they said they didn't have an exchange available and could only have me return the computer. However, Amazon showed there were 8 left. Maybe because the price has gone up since I ordered, maybe not.

★★☆☆☆ Fails at AC power port, the rest functioning. Pretty nice little notebook, well made, but for some glaring problems. AC port becomes loose or otherwise fails to connect, needs reinforced anchoring at entry port. OS is better than non-pro versions, but, it is still clunky old Microsoft. Needs easily addressable instructions for UEFI settings to reformat drive and install alternate (BETTER!) OS. Shame to waste nice hardware on such awful software. Windows still beats Chrome OS, which is garbage +. I want my Linux back, tell MS to stop strangling the market.

I bought the non-touchscreen version because it was cheaper with more space; however I received one that was a touchscreen. This Chromebook is great for some gaming and is lightweight and portable. Out of desperation, I ordered a refurbished one from these guys and it's great! It works well, was easy to set up, and at the same time, my sister ordered a refurbished Apple tablet for us. It is obsolete and can't be updated. I love windows cause even if you have older windows versions, that you can update and that "play well with others." I've never had or used a Dell that I was disappointed in either! I'm so happy that, for an incredible price, I was able to make that little boy's dreams come true and restore his faith in Santa! First we had to purchase a replacement charge cord bc it came with one that wasn't for this computer. About a week then stopped working saying the battery was bad. Very bad experience start to finish! Do NOT purchase this laptop or anything else from this seller!!!!!

However I intended this device to be used with linux and a junk computer if stolen when using at the library. Keep in mind!! That the ram on this computer is not upgradable, you get 4 gbs and thats all you get!!! The great advantage is this is a completely fanless computer and it's a Dell, so its highly compatible with linux operating systems, more so than other brands. Apparently you can upgrade the EMMC (basically memory card (smaller than usual memory storage). There is no ethernet port, but the size of this thing is great.

★☆☆☆☆ Intermittent Touchpad Issues and Slow Performance. Physically, the laptop is in great condition. However, right out the gate I had major issues. The overall performance is sluggish and buggy. Even trying to open Settings took forever. The touchpad only works for a few seconds before freezing up (mouse works just fine but I purchased this laptop to write while sitting in a comfy chair and not to be tethered to a mouse and desk) and only intermittently shows up in Device Manager. Suffice to say, immediately having to do a Factory Reset on Day One is not a good sign.

★★★★☆ Good for work. While setting up the laptop I noticed that there were two scratches on the laptop in total, one being more of a scratch than the other. Hardly noticeable, although overall it looked brand new. I have no real complaints as of yet while using it. It's what I expected, I knew it is not a computer meant for gaming but more for getting some work done. I can easily open 12 tabs, have a youtube vid running and open a word document but it is not going to run Minecraft on the lowest settings, I mean it can but its unplayable in my opinion.The computer does not come with windows 11 installed, I felt lied too when I got it and saw it running windows 10 In S mode out of the box since the description, title and specs clearly say and show windows 11. (running "S mode" just means running safe mode) It comes with a card in the box telling you how to disable it, but one disabled it can not be re-enabled. The photos even show windows 11. But not to worry, I simply installed windows 11 on my own after a days worth of updates. A quick google search and one youtube vid can help install it.It does not have an ethernet port. But I got an ethernet to USB adaptor to make pages load faster.The camera? It has one! It works, it will get the job done.No issues with any ports or the charging cable, no issues with the mouse pad. Everything feels brand new.In conclusion, this is a decent laptop at its price for getting work done. So if you need a computer to write an essay for school or need to hop in a zoom call then this can work just as good as your phone. Personally I plan to learn and practice learning some programming languages on it from youtube and such. You even have that "Guarantee by Amazon" where you can return it in 90 days or get support.

The description conveniently leaves out the fact that this is a 2015 MacBook Air that runs on an operating system that is no longer supported and cannot be updated making it so you cannot download virtually any apps, extensions or even run current Microsoft and probably other programs in the BROWSER rendering the item almost completely useless. I understand that these details are likely hidden somewhere in the description but are very very easily overlooked by anyone who is not educated about computers or Mac so while I take part blame, the sellers should’ve highlighted the specific version of the operating system and model of MacBook Air. Very disappointed (also the refurbishing job was subpar at best. The sticker skin placed on the laptop probably to cover scratches was not even lined up properly and had wrinkles

The software is more than adequate for my use. In fact, I have more apps that I use. Looking at the environmental costs of new products and the price of this refurbished laptop, this was a no-brainer.It is LIGHT. The lightest laptop I've had, and the sleek aluminum body stays cool after hours of use. I guess they fixed that heatsink/logic-board-overheating problem that was common in the first few generations.When I bought my first Mac 2GB laptop (wifi card or extra memory, optional) in San Jose, it weighed SIX pounds. La confezione era di un macbook air ( riciclata ovviamente) all’interno un macbook air grigio siderale che a parte una minima ammaccatura su uno degli angoli, non presenta altre imperfezioni. Il caricatore è molto usurato ma carica perfettamente il PC. Accendendo il macbook e, dopo aver aggiornato il sistema nelle sue ultime versioni, funziona perfettamente. Molto veloce e prestante ( da calcolare che ho anche un altro macbook e questo mi serviva come secondo pc per svolgere alcuni lavori più veloci e da potermi portare con più leggerezza). Andando nei dettagli del laptop ha gia un ciclo di ricariche di 3350 su 10000 quindi direi che è abbastanza nuova. Il prezzo super conveniente. Contento rifarei l’acquisto che consiglierò e mi ha fatto anche scoprire la parte renewed di amazon sulla quale ora inizierò a dare più spesso uno sguardo prima di effettuare altri acquisti.

I ordered this device and initially the wrong charging cord was sent out. ( The round one but the device required the flat one) . The seller sent the accurate cord, however, the laptop wouldn’t work. I was getting these codes displayed in the pictures. So I followed the step to recover the chrome OS and it’s asking me for a usb to plug in. That was never sent to me … So that didn’t work. I decided to refund the product and found out that this company wants me to pay for the return. ( for a defected laptop) .. This entire ordeal has been a mess. I’m not sure what’s going on with this company but as a Teacher who works with the county’s IT department.. This is definitely not acceptable!!!!! So I’m waiting to hear back from the seller to figure out how I can get my money back from a lap top that doesn’t work and having to pay for the return.

It's fast and works great for basic school and work needs. The seller claims them to be an "Amazon Certified / Microsoft Certified" refurbisher.Who on earth sells a laptop without a battery???People by refurbished because they cant afford a new one. Please don't scam such people by selling these garbage.Shame on the refurbisher and shame on the certifiers who endorse them.

For example, the volume keys on the keyboard did not work. It wasn’t a big deal for me because I can manually click the volume button on the screen or adjust it through my headphones. A couple of other buttons were not functioning either. It wasn’t a big deal because there were other ways around it. However, what made me return it was the Ethernet cable port. Once I plugged my Ethernet cable in, I could not get it back out. It was stuck. I had to unscrew the whole back of the laptop just to get my Ethernet cable out and it was still difficult to do so. Having the Ethernet port malfunction was a deal breaker because the company I work for requires me to be on LAN/ hardwire connection. I realized later that I may have been able to use an Ethernet cable adapter but it’s too late. I returned the product. Other than that it ran really well and fast and was extremely easy to set up.

You aren't gaming on it, but if you need an inexpensive laptop for shop or utility use, it's hard to beat for the price. It did what it needed to do.My only real complaint is the battery seems a bit short lived even on power saver mode. However, as long as I'm aware of that and there's a plug reasonably close to charge after a couple hours, it's fine. Being a refurb, your milage might vary, but all in all I have no issues.

Letter "O" and left click on keypad non-functional. Worse, even simple tasks like web surfing news sites would trigger Windows error messages("mode exception not handled" "unexpected kernel mode trap", etc and system would reboot). I called service # enclosed and left a message, but there was no call back. After 24 hours, I called again, and again left a message. An hour later, still no response. I'm not satisfied, so I'm boxing it up.

This compact & versatile personal computer is perfect for traveling and/or bedroom emergency/last minute tasks.I was VERY skeptical about this Dell Windows 10 PC $130 purchase but I am truly enjoying the: ability to switch positions as needed (folding, laying flat, flipping, 90°) and the screen automatically adjusts, use of touch-screen when folded or not, the fact that it has a HDMI port, 2 USB ports, SD card slot, Head Phone port, all of the function keys (F1-F12) and there's a camera on both the screen & the keyboard for the different positions.The ease of use surprised me even beyond the 90 day warranty which had me nervous but it's still working: I'm using Office 365 and few other of my work related apps as well as Anti-Virus software with no lagging. The WiFi works without any issues 2G or 5G but I use Ethernet connection by way of a USB/Ethernet connection cord because I prefer it over WiFi (item shown purchased from Amazon as well).The battery is legit though sometimes it says 1hr left but it's actually more than that so there may be a flaw there. You can always switch to economy use and get longer battery use; regular battery I've had 5 hours continued use, Eco-friendly I've had even longer (it really depends on what you're doing with the PC). The bottom does get warm so be mindful of that while using it for a long period.Another flaw I encountered was the K key that is a hit or miss; meaning you may have to press it multiple times for it to work but I'm okay with that too; Autocorrect or Auto Complete will suggest the word for you anyway.At the present moment it's working just fine and I get to travel with the PC without the weight or size bogging me down. I use a padded carry case with handles or I put it in the reserved padded technology space of my back pack.

Thankfully my son was available to install this Del but he found it easy to work with.We had to purchase an inexpensive adapter to use when loading digital pictures from our digital camera but the attachments works fine. I am not sure how other customers might install this computer but my son was able to transfer nearly 98 percent of my files from another computer into this compact Del laptop, including many of my passwords! Although I did not think the touch screen would impress me, I have grown into really liking it because it is the best way to readjust the screen size. For some mysterious reason, the battery icon on the start ribbon disappeared. Consequently I have to go into settings to find out how much batter life is remaining; but I have at least 5 hours of battery was able to set an alarm when the battery reaches 20 percent. Overall, this compact laptop is a good investment. My son also downloaded the Microsoft office from Amazon. Thank God for sons!
