Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 Mobile Insider preview build 10136 on Fast ring today. Users who are upgrading to this build should note few very important things announced by Microsoft.

  • This is being offered to Windows Phone Insiders on Fast Ring and phones running Windows Phone 8.1
  • Those running previous build 10080 offered on Fast Ring will have to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows Phone Recovery Tool if they want to upgrade to 10136. This is required because of a migration bug which is affecting upgrades from 10080 to this build. Once you are on Windows 8.1, one has to go to Windows Insider app and have to select Insider Fast again.
  • One will be able to upgrade directly to the latest 10136 in a single hop regardless of which Windows Phone 8.1 build you are on.
  • For those who are on Build 10080 and don’t want to go back to Windows 8.1 to upgrade to 10136 build, don’t have to do anything. As such users won’t be offered this upgrade but their phones will be configured for the next build as the migration issue will be fixed by that time.
  • And this is SUPER IMPORTANT as Microsoft put it, so don’t miss this for those who are upgrading to this build :

At the end of the upgrade the Lock screen will appear frozen without the date and time for up to 10 minutes. Please be patient and let it sit – eventually the date and time will appear and it will allow you to unlock your phone. There is a post-upgrade migration status screen missing, which normally would show you that it was making progress. If you get impatient and restart or mess with locking/unlocking your phone, you’ll wind up in a funky state – so just relax and let it do its thing.
